Sunday, August 4th was the first day we went to visit Baby Ben. It was harder than I expected. As usual, I failed to recognize the significance of how what we were doing would take me back to the moments when we first lost him.

Travis, Titus, and I were there. It tugged at my heart strings when I realized that this was the first time we were all together as a family since I was pregnant with Ben. Travis began with a prayer, and read the following verses we both liked. They were chosen because we wanted to remember God’s faithfulness. I wanted to remember that He sent His own Son to die on the cross, (while we were yet sinners!) so that we could be restored to Him and have eternal hope that far outlasts the things of this world. I also wanted to be reminded that God has adopted Benjamin, and that he is now in His presence singing praises. That’s why I chose Revelation Song sung by Kari Jobe. I wanted for a time to join in community with Ben and all the saints singing praises to our Most High King.

Lamentations 3:22-26

The Great Multitude in White Robes

9 After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. who sits on the throne,

A New Heaven and a New Earth

21 Then I saw “a new heaven and a new earth,” for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea. 2 I saw the Holy City, the new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, prepared as a bride beautifully dressed for her husband. 3 And I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. 4 ‘He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death’ or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”

5 He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Then he said, “Write this down, for these words are trustworthy and true.”

6 He said to me: “It is done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the Beginning and the End. To the thirsty I will give water without cost from the spring of the water of life. 7 Those who are victorious will inherit all this, and I will be their God and they will be my children.

We then sang some of Titus’ favorite songs, “Jesus Loves the Little Children” and his bedtime song, “Jesus Loves You (Me).” As we said our final goodbyes, I laid a note to Benjamin containing the poem I had written (on a previous blog) with a rock from our garden.
